There is a critical shortage of nurses in Canada and worldwide.
The backbone of Canadian healthcare is nurses.
Nursing schools, nursing associations, and federal and provincial governments are trying fervently to strengthen our healthcare system.
They need the public’s assistance.
The purpose of the book Healing Canadian Healthcare: Ideas to Improve Nursing Enrolment & Retention is to educate the public about nursing and to ask for their assistance in boosting nursing enrolment and nursing retention.
The question is, who do we want to present this information to?
The answer is young men and women looking for a career who are entering high school.
How can the public take action immediately?
The easiest way to begin is to seek out local nurses who are doing outstanding work. Write about them in newspaper editorials, talk about them on radio shows, podcasts, and TED talks. Have them speak to high school students. Teachers could ask students to research the wide variety of nursing specialties available. By doing so, this raises awareness as to the possibility of choosing nursing as a profession and discovering a niche that appeals to them. There may be young people who don’t want to consider nursing as a career. No problem! However, even these individuals understand the need to fortify the healthcare system because their mothers, fathers, aunts, uncles, or grandparents may require medical care in the future.
Where do high school students get their information? Showcasing different nursing specialties in short informercials where young people get information is more effective than asking them to attend job fairs. Consistency and repetition is key. The same infomercials could be broadcast from coast to coast in every province, highlighting diversity and inviting more men to enter the profession.
Canadians have a knack for coming together in times of need.
Canadian healthcare is in trouble because of a critical shortage of nurses among other issues.
Let’s unite and work together to resolve this concern.
