Have you ever received a thoughtful gesture, a smile, a tip, or a hug precisely when you needed it?
Did it renew your faith in the fact that there are kindhearted people everywhere?
The holidays are a time when family and friends celebrate their faith, their good fortune, and the joy of being together.
What about the homeless, the mentally ill, the people with an addiction, and the disabled who are alone?
It is not your job to save the world. However, we are all connected.
If you have the opportunity to extend kindness to at least one person, it may create a domino effect.
Never underestimate the effect a smile has on a person who feels alone. Never underestimate the value of a considerate gesture. For example, you may have the opportunity to:
Help a person who has slipped and fallen.
Open the door for a woman pushing a stroller.
Pay a coffee forward when you buy your morning coffee.
Help load groceries in the back of a car for an older adult riddled with arthritis.
Allow a shopper with a few items to go ahead of you when your shopping cart is full at the grocery store.
Shovel the snow-covered walkway for a person sick with the flu.
Make chicken soup for a neighbor recovering from surgery.
The list is endless.
During the holiday season, consider this quote.
“One of the most important things you can do on this earth is to let people know they are not alone.”
― Shannon L. Alder
