Healing Canadian Healthcare

This article appeals to all Canadians to assist in improving nursing enrolment and retention.

Canada requires nurses both now and in the future. This is not a new concern; it is a global issue.

The point is that the public lacks a clear understanding of the role of nurses. As a result, fewer young people are choosing to pursue a career in nursing. Much of the information available to the public comes from television, which often presents an unrealistic portrayal of the profession. Even students entering nursing programs may not fully grasp the responsibilities and challenges that nurses face. Consequently, the attrition rate tends to rise once they begin their clinical placements.

Nurses are the backbone of Canadian healthcare. Without them, the system would collapse.

It is essential to educate the public about the nursing profession. Rather than relying on individuals to attend job fairs, we should streamline the process. We can advocate for provincial governments to broadcast infomercials highlighting the various specialties available to nurses. These short infomercials should be streamed on platforms that are popular among young people and adults. By placing this information directly in front of them, we can inspire a desire to learn more about nursing.

Canadians are proud, intelligent, and resilient individuals who come together in times of crisis. The nursing profession is currently facing a significant challenge. This article appeals to all Canadians to assist in enhancing nursing enrolment and retention.

I have been a nurse since 1977 and have remained in this profession while others have burned out. Here are three reasons for my longevity in this field: First, I love the people I work with; they are dedicated professionals who consistently support me. Second, I have found a specialty that I am passionate about: intensive care nursing. Finally, I prioritize extreme self-care, ensuring that I take care of my mental and physical well-being. After a challenging shift, my colleagues are the best people to talk to, as they always have my back.

I have written a concise and impactful book of fewer than 10,000 words. The first section educates the public about the nursing profession, while the second part seeks public support. It is designed to be a ten-minute read. This book serves as a call to action, urging the public to help address the nursing crisis, as Canadians deserve access to exceptional healthcare. Canadians come together in times of need.

The book is titled Healing Canadian Healthcare: Ideas to Improve Nursing Enrolment & Retention. It is currently available on Amazon Kindle and will soon be released in paperback format.
