Protect Your Mental Health: Take 5 Minutes to Feel Joy Today

Mental Health

By Kathleen Boucher

Bad news grabs attention, and scrolling through your phone can become addictive. You might feel lonely and crave a connection to the world, believing you would miss out on important news if you were not constantly online.

So, when do you make time to take care of your mental health? When do you pause to experience joy in your life? Do you believe there is no joy to have?

If you are alive, if your fingers work, if you can see, hear, speak, and taste, I challenge you to spend the next 5 minutes feeling joy.

Next time you see a bumblebee, appreciate how hard it works. When you look at a flower, remember the bumblebee. When you drink a glass of water, savour how refreshing it is.

Each morning, take a moment to appreciate being alive and feel the joy that comes with it. It doesn’t have to be complicated.

What brings you the greatest joy? Ask yourself what specific activities you can do during those 5 minutes to feel pleasure.

Imagine resetting your mindset by replacing gloom and doom with joy, even for 5 minutes daily. How might that change how you feel?

Start a ritual that prioritizes your mental health. How can you effectively incorporate this ritual into your daily routine? Begin with 5 minutes and gradually extend it by 5 minutes every other day. The goal is to care for your mind.

When you feel better, you can accomplish more.

You are worth it.
