Nursing is the backbone of healthcare. When there are not enough nurses, emergency rooms close, operations get delayed, and patient care suffers. If you have ever been sick and had long wait times for a doctor’s appointment or emergency room visits, you may understand.

However, if you are healthy and have not seen a doctor in years, you might not realize that healthcare requires a strong nursing foundation.

There is a nursing shortage in Canada, the United States, and globally. Nurses left the profession when COVID hit. The nursing shortage has never rebounded.

Is the nursing shortage fixable?

The answer is yes if everyone unites to learn about the nursing profession and encourages more nursing enrollment and retention.

It starts with awareness.

How can you help?

Educate yourself about nursing. Talk to nurses in your community. Discover the work that they do. Ask how you can encourage more enrolment and retention in the nursing profession.

Strengthening Canadian Healthcare begins with awareness and education.

Call to action: What small action can you take today to learn more about the nursing profession?
